Mission

The Museum of the Canals tells the story of the Amsterdam canals: about then, now and in the future. The history of the Amsterdam canals is told in an accessible way to reach and inspire as many people as possible.

Foundation Het Grachtenhuis is a non-profit organization and serves the public interest. The foundation’s aim is to convey the history of the Amsterdam canal ring (UNESCO: Seventeenth-Century Canal Ring Area of Amsterdam inside the Singelgracht) to a broad public. This aim is realized via the existence, maintenance and exploitation of the museum: ‘Museum of the Canals’.

The board of Foundation Het Grachtenhuis

The Museum of the Canals is governed by the management, consisting of a chief executive officer. The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the entire operational management.

The Foundation functions with a Board of Directors. The board has a supervising and advisory role, monitoring the policymaking of the management and the general organization of the foundation and the museum.

OPENING HOURS

Open from Tuesday to Sunday: 10:00 to 17:00.

Closed: every Monday, December 25th, January 1st and April 27th.
