Visiting the Museum of the Canals
The Museum of the Canals (Grachtenmuseum) is located in the heart of Amsterdam at Herengracht 386, within walking distance of, for example, Dam Square and Museumplein. The museum tells about the history of Amsterdam and its canals. Visitors see a permanent multimedia exhibition, art exhibitions, a 17th-century canal house with period rooms, a show room with 18th-century wall paintings and a beautiful ceiling painting. Ideal for young and old who want to discover the city and first want to know something about its history.
The museum has only been around for 10 years and can really be called a hidden gem. Ideal for those who want to get off the beaten track and see something unique, but still want to stay in the center of Amsterdam. A visit takes about 1 hour.
Group Visits for Tour Operators
Making a reservation for a group is easy:
- Send us an e-mail mail@grachten.museum with the desired date and time, group size and your company details. We will make a reservation in our system.
- In case of changes please contact us before the group visit.
- Our permanent exhibition works on time slots of 10 minutes for 12 guests. I case the group is larger, we will have to break the group up and ask guests to wait in our museum for the next timeslot.
- We will send an invoice after the visit or guests can pay at the reception desk.
