Grachtenmuseum Amsterdam tells the story of the Amsterdam canals: about the past, present, and future. The history of the Amsterdam canals is told in an accessible way to reach and inspire as many people as possible.

Are you looking for volunteer work? And would you prefer to do so at a socially engaged, cultural institution? Then we have a wonderful role for you! We are looking for several volunteers for the position of Hospitality staff.

Who are you?

As a Hospitality volunteer, you are the face of the museum; you are the first point of contact for visitors. You are enthusiastic, customer-friendly, and you enjoy making people feel welcome and assisting them properly. Together with the Duty Manager and Visitor Assistants, you ensure that visitors have the most pleasant and inspiring visit possible.

What will you do?

• Welcoming visitors
• Providing information about the museum and our highly regarded audiovisual tour.
• Supervising the 17th-century period rooms and the garden.
• Informing visitors about facilities in our museum: cloakroom, lockers, and potentially the lift for people with mobility issues.

What do we ask of you?

Our goal is to offer visitors to the Grachtenmuseum the most pleasant visit possible. Therefore, we are looking for volunteers with an open and service-oriented attitude. We also require a sense of responsibility for tasks and appointments.

• You have some experience in a service-oriented (volunteer) position, gained in hospitality, tourism, retail, or an arts and culture institution.
• You speak good Dutch and English. Speaking an additional language, such as German, French, Italian, or Spanish, is a valuable asset.
• You have a professional appearance and are physically able to stand and/or walk for an entire shift.
• You are flexible in terms of availability, including weekends
• Residing in Amsterdam or the surrounding area.

What are the working hours?

We ask for an availability of at least half a day per week (12:00 to 16:00).
