Permanent exhibition:
The Amsterdam canals
The Amsterdam canals are the heart of our city and have a complex and interesting history. In the permanent exhibition we tell this story in an adventurous way in a tour through 5 rooms.
How did Amsterdam transform from a small fishing port into a metropolis? And why do they remain of central importance to the city to this day? You’ll learn all of this in our compelling audiovisual exhibition, which takes you on a journey through 400 years of Amsterdam’s history.
Our audiovisual exhibition is visited with a free audio guide. It is available in nine different languages: Dutch, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Chinese (Mandarin) and Russian.
The audio guide guides you through five rooms. This takes about 45 to 50 minutes. There stars a new tour every 10 minutes, each tour has place for 12 people. The start for the last tour is at 16:30.
After the exhibition there is the possibility to visit our temporary exhibitions, period rooms and garden.
