School visits for primary education, secondary education, and vocational training.
Dive into the Amsterdam canals! Visit our seventeenth-century canal house with your school class and go on a journey through 400 years of Amsterdam history. How did the canals originate and why are they so important to the city to this day? In our permanent exhibition 'The Amsterdam Canals', the story of the canals' creation is told in an accessible yet spectacular way.
Upon arrival, all students receive an audio guide to use during the exhibition. The audio guide is available in 9 different languages and a visit to the multimedia exhibition takes approximately 45 minutes. If necessary, we divide the group into smaller groups upon arrival, which can start the tour at 10-minute intervals. This ensures that everyone can experience the exhibition optimally.
This permanent multimedia exhibition is highly suitable for groups of all levels from primary school, grade 4 (group 6) and up.

The canals are not only full of history but also offer an interesting perspective on various current themes, such as climate and nature, the colonial past, urban expansion, and activism. The lessons consist of text, slides with images, short video clips, (quiz) questions, and interactive elements.
