Accessibility
WAt the Museum of the Canals, we want to be a museum for everyone. We strive to make the museum as accessible as possible for all our visitors and continuously seek out improvements to make a visit to our museum attractive for all. Please keep in mind that on busy Saturday- and Sunday afternoons it can be more challenging to move around due to limited space.
Visitors who use a wheelchair or have limited mobility
The museum has a step-free, wheelchair-friendly platform lift next to the main entrance. When you arrive at the museum entrance, please call us at +31 (0)20-4211656. A member of staff will come out to assist you and operate the platform lift.
Inside the museum there is a lift to every floor and exhibition space.
The museum has a wheelchair-friendly toilet with grab rails, a low sink, and an alarm cord
Disabled parking
The nearest disabled parking space is opposite the entrance to the museum. Another option is at Molenpad number 17, about 300 meters from the entrance of the museum.
Lightweight collapsible chairs
A number of rooms in the museum do not have a place to sit down. As a result, we have lightweight portable folding chairs available to our visitors. If you would like to borrow a portable folding stool during your visit, please ask one of your staff members at the box office.
Visitors who are deaf or hard of hearing
For visitors who are deaf or hard of hearing we offer paper copies of the audio tour script. The paper copy is free and can be picked up at the box office.
Service dogs
Service dogs (such as guide dogs for visitors who are blind or partially sighted) are permitted in the museum. We kindly ask that you keep your dog on a leash at all times.
Bringing a companion
If you are unable to visit the museum independently you may bring a companion with you free of charge.
Our staff members are more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Feel free to contact us at +31 (0)20 42 11 656 or mail@grachten.museum. Should you require additional help during your visit, we will gladly assist you at our museum.
Please note
- There are thresholds of 3 cm high throughout the museum
- The narrowest door opening is 80 cm wide
- Unfortunately it is not possible to visit the museum with a mobility scooter
